Tetramorium queens

Tetramorium queen ant
This is one of my three new Tetramorium queens.

Just yesterday, I found my first Tetramorium immigrans queens at a friend’s pool! The three that I found were all in equally precarious situations, being way too close to the water. I found two on the pool cover, and one in a filter chamber. The first two were quite easy to catch, as I just had to carefully pick them up and place them in snap caps, while the third was more difficult. This third one must’ve entered a ventilation hole in the filter chamber and fell into it. Luckily for her, there was a ball floating in the water, which she managed to climb onto or land on. After some time, I was able to place her in a snap cap.

Oddly, when I was heading home, I noticed that two of them had laid one egg each! This was quite bizarre, So when I got home, I connected their containers to test tubes for them to move into. The other one hadn’t laid an egg, so I just moved her into a test tube nest by gently tapping the snap cap she was in. See you next week!
