I haven’t provided an update on this Myrmica in quite some time, but she is doing reasonably well. Among her brood is a pupa that is on the verge of eclosing (the process in which a pupa turns into an adult), meaning this queen will have a colony in a matter of days. She also has some larvae as well as a few eggs in her brood pile. I will try to catch the queen unfolding the pupa on video if I get the chance. In fact, this pupa is partially unfolded, meaning this queen might have a nanitic tomorrow. If the pupa has not become a nanitic by tomorrow morning, then it will likely transform over the next few days.
