The same queen as the first image, but more of the queen’s head is visible. (in the first image, half of her head was hidden by the brood, but she is fine.)

When I took the photos on day 35, the queens had multiple brood piles, and I saw a new pile of larger larvae. Ants group their young by age so they are easier to care for. The larvae have yellow-orange dots in their stomachs which is the food that the queens have been giving to them. The way that the queen feeds the larvae is called trophallaxis. Trophallaxis is how most social insects—like most ants and honeybees—transfer food to each other.

I also recorded my first video.
