Monomorium minimum – Larvae?

by NJ Ant FanPosted on July 25, 2021July 25, 2021
Monomorium minimum queen ant with brood
This queen might have a larva, but I can’t tell.

Over a few days, my M. minimum queens have been amassing more brood, and now one of them is about to have larvae. Given that all four of these queens have so much young, they are probably all fertile, so I will hopefully get a colony from at least one of these little black queens. The nanitics will probably be tiny, as the queens are on the rather small side, so these queens will need a lot of workers to get a founding nest, let alone a small nest. These will probably have larvae by next week if they do not have any larvae now.
