A few days ago, I looked into my Prenolepis imparis (Winter Ant) nest to see if any nanitics were present. As expected, there were two nanitics in the nest. Now that this pair of queens has nanitics, their first meal is just days away. I will provide honey for their first meal, a common favorite among my ants. As more and more workers arrive, Repletes will begin to form. Repletes are a specialized caste solely used to store food and water, causing their gasters to balloon in size. These repletes are the primary reason I want to keep a successful colony of this species.
