Day 14 – The second check

Two of the queen ants with eggs

I checked the queen ants again on June 6, and here is what I saw. The second winged queen was now dead, but the four wingless queens were alive, and still had brood. This was good because not every fertilized queen makes it to the worker stage, so this maximizes the chances of a queen successfully founding my ant colony. At this point, I felt like I had won the lottery, where the prize is an ant colony.
