On Thursday, April 13th, 2023, I decided to see if my two recently-caught winter ant queens had laid eggs since the third queen, who mysteriously died, had been removed. Upon removing the cover, I saw a queen holding one egg. This is a good sign that an attempt to start a colony is underway. Hopefully, when I look at this pair of queens again, they will have laid more eggs, creating a starting brood pile.
