Finally, the Proliferator has nanitics! One day, I looked into her nest and saw a nanitic. Now she has more, but I am unsure on how many nanitics there are. From watching the tunnel over time, I concluded that there are probably at least seven or eight in total because I have seen up to four digging at once. These little ants also seem to love eating honey, which is good. When I placed the snap cap lid containing the colony’s first meal, the nanitics did not emerge from their nest for a few minutes, after which one of them emerged from their nest and spilled the beans about the food to the rest of the colony.
A week after several nanitics had emerged from their cocoons, they started to dig a tunnel. This tunnel was dug out of sand that the queen had dug when she first moved into their current setup. Eventually, the nanitics reached the surface and built a nest mound. After that, they began constructing a second hole, which was not connected to the nest at all for some reason. Their tunnel to the surface is rather long, which I found rather peculiar, as they could have easily tunneled back up through the mound the queen had made. Whatever the reason for their seemingly odd decision was, it did end up working out for them. Until next week, bye!
