On day 49, I checked the queen ants again, and saw that the pupae were still the same light color, so workers could be here later than expected. The pupae get darker as they develop. I am trying to speed up the development of the pupae by putting them on a heating mat, but it should not kill them. Wild ants put their pupae closer to the surface so they develop into workers faster.
I found out online that these ants can be very stubborn to move out of a test tube once the workers arrive. I hope these ants move into their new home when I try to move them out of their test tubes. Sometimes, they will not move even if the test tube is bone dry which is strange since they like more humid environments.
