Last queen of the season: found it on my bed!

by NJ Ant FanPosted on November 12, 2023November 12, 2023
Crematogaster queen ant
How does this even happen?

On Thursday, November 9th, the weirdest thing happened. I noticed a black thing resting on my bed. Upon closer inspection, it was a Crematogaster queen! After quickly collecting her, I placed the queen into a test tube nest. I then looked at my other two Crematogasters to make sure both were in their nests, which they were. Now that I knew that the new queen wasn’t an escapee, I became even more confused. How did she get in? Why did she end up on my bed? Will she give rise to a successful colony? Who knows!
