Tricolor Camponotus Queen

by NJ Ant FanPosted on October 15, 2023
Camponotus tricolor queen ant in a test tube nest.
A Camponotus .sp queen in her nest.

On October 5th, I found this Camponotus .sp queen. One thing that stood out was her color was similar to Camponotus chromaiodes workers, who have a black head, orange thorax, and gold gaster. Said workers have confused me countless times. This queen did end up being chromaiodes. The chance of me getting workers out of this queen is very slim, as she is unlikely to be fertile because of how late in the year she was found.
