One day last August, I saw a nuptial cloud of ants above my driveway, and I went outside to catch some more queen ants. Suddenly, an ant landed on my shirt. I caught her in a test tube, and then I noticed a male on her! Then I took her inside and took some photos of the pair. Mating only takes a few minutes in most ants, so it was fortunate that I took some photos before the male detached. After I had taken the photos, I placed her test tube among my other founding queens in test tubes. As of today, I am still waiting for her to have nanitics.
