Today I saw one of Scar Smile’s nanitics feeding on Sunburst Ant Nectar. This has always been one of their favorite foods, and it still is, but they also love honey and mealworm pieces.
They also have lots of brood, mainly large larvae. These larvae are very close to becoming pupae, and I also noticed a nanitic trying to escape, meaning they need more nesting space. I plan on giving them an Ants Australia Founding Nest once their large larvae turn into adult ants. At that point, they will have outgrown their test tube, and they will then move into the founding nest.
I also saw a nanitic biting at the sand, which may indicate they are collecting sand to aid their larvae spinning cocoons. They use the sand like scaffolding for the larvae to attach silk to, and once the cocoons are finished, the nanitics will remove the sand from the cocoons.
